In the early 1960's Southern University at Edwardsville recognized that America, sometimes blindly and without conscious realization, was casting aside portions of its national and cultural heritage in the form of unique architectural ornament from a previous period of growth and expansion. The university has worked to salvage systematically as many of the best examples as possible from the Chicago School of Architecture, indigenous to the Midwest. The works of Louis Henri Sullivan were selected as most deserving of preservation. - Introduction.
