Published to highlight Bedouin traditional crafts. Offers an explanation of the various stages involved in wool weaving and large photos of the woven materials with special focus on the patterns and desgns distictive to the craft. An excellent resource for Middle Eastern weaving. Includes examples of looms, tents, saddle bags, rugs, camel decoration, and details of Bedouin patterns. With an essay, Weaving as Done by the Kuwaiti Bedouin Women in their Black Tents, Pre-1960, by Dame Violet Dickson and two Bedouin poems. Except for the poems, which are in Arabic only, each leaf of text is in English on one side and in Arabic on the reverse. A beautiful presentation by the group of Kuwaitis who formed The Al-Sadu Project in 1980 to protect Bedouin heritage and in particular the Bedouin crafts. The term, Al-Sadu, is the name for the craft of weaving amongst the Bedouin of Arabia. The project then grown into the Al-Sadu Weaving Cooperative in in 1991, in Kuwait, and still is a vital part of the Bedouin culture and continued revival of textile arts in the Arabian Peninsula.
