From the publisher's website: The association of different weaving traditions was a result of the flourishing long-distance trade that linked the Mediterranean region along the "Silk Road" with Iran, China and Central Asia. The catalog consists of three parts: The first, by Karel Otavsky: "Early medieval material between Persia and China" with a discussion of early Chinese and Central Asian textiles the Abegg Foundation acquired. "Textiles from Eastern Asia: Liao Dynasty, 907-1125," by Anne E. Wardwell, covers some early fabric of the Liaozeit, with emphasis on the different tissue techniques. "Silk fabric of the high and late Middle Ages', edited by Karel Otavsk, further highlights the Abegg Foundation collection, expanding upon the high Middle Mongolian, Persian and Middle Eastern textiles and their influence on the early Italian fabric. An appendix has an English translation of the introduction, a concordance of inventory and catalog numbers and a detailed register of literature.
