James Eddy is said to have been a prominent art dealer in Providence, who died in 1888. Pertaining to fine art, there are many works by an artist listed as A. Leonard of London. The last lot in the sale is by Thomas Cole (of Philadelphia it says) and is titled "Falls of The Chaudiere, Canada" said to be a pencil sketch. Also includes works by George Loring Brown, Horace Vernet, J.M. Claude of New York, also purports to have a set of Thomas Cole's "The Voyage of Life, though no direct information on the pictures being offered is given besides there being four pieces. Also a portrait by Gilbert Stuart of Martha Washington. Also includes a View of West Point by Doughty, works by Decamps, Dupre, Rubens, Troyon, Prud'hon, Charles Emile Jacque, Bonheur, Diaz, Mlle. Ledoux, greuze, Maria Angelica Kauffmann, Georges Michel, Daubigny, Corot, J.F. Millet, Detti, J. Foxcroft Cole, Thomas Birch, John Singleton CopleyFrank Shapleigh, George Inness (View near Mt. Washington) and many others.There were almost 600 paintings in this sale, many of them major works. Lancour locates one copy of this catalogue.
