A very fascinating and intriguing story. From Biblio--This is the story of five supposedly Chippendale chairs sold by Sotheby's, London in 1974, for a then record $207,500, but subsequently withdrawn and shipped to Sotheby's Parke Bernet in New York when it was discovered that they were actually American in origin. They were then attributed to Philadelphia furniture maker Benjamin Randolph. The author, a Connecticut antiques dealer, gives evidence for them being the work of C. Hanlon. Newspaper article laid-in.
