The same stamps are present on the plate pages of Volume 2 but do not come near the images. Other than this, the text blocks are tight and clean, and the set appears seldom-used but ill-treated. Could be restored or placed in archival boxes. Item #125878

Text is in English. When published, Volume 1 of this set of books constituted a catalog of carpets in the collection of the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry. The focus of Volume 2 was to reproduce examples of outstanding related carpets that were either hitherto unknown to scholars or which were reproduced in such poor quality that a revisiting seemed appropriate. The technical notes in Vol. 1 are by S. Troll, in Vol. 2 by various contributors. cf. Pref., v. 2. Volume 1 contents as follows: Persian Carpets, plates 1-33. Indian Carpets, plates 34-38; So-Called Armenian Carpets (Caucasus region), plates 39-43; Egyptian Carpets (Egypt and Turkey), plates 44-51. Asia Minor Carpets, 52-55. Turkish Carpets, plates 56-60. 35 of the 60 plates in Vol. 1 are color. Volume two is comprised of 60 plates (32 of them in color). Volume 2 also has an extensive bibliography. Very rare, certainly worth restoring or housing in clamshell boxes. This set weighs 49 pounds and is extremely large.
