Suggestions In Floral Design

London, Paris & New York: Cassell Petter & Galpin, 1878, circa. Hardbound. Library red buckram. Title printed in red and black. Fifty-two chromolithographed plates, including added title and end leaf, with guard sheets. 52 pages of text. Good+, ex library see notes. Item #125060

The plates are beautifully printed in gold and vibrant colors by Dupuy & Fils, Litho., Paris. Plates are generally clean and bright, with only occasional thumb-soiling. A few tissue guards with small tears. The former library owner has blessed each plate with a perforation stamp in the lower right hand corner, and a few plates also have an oval ink stamp in the lower left corner which has generally faded with time. From the Introductory page: ""The greater number of the illustrations have already been privately used as indications to pupils of what we consider correct treatments of floral forms, and it is in the hope that they may be thus useful to a larger circle that they are now published. To this end they have all been kept bold in form, simple in colour, and of a size that should present no difficulties to any student desirous of reproducing them; and we may further mention that none of the suggestions are mere reproductions or modifications of designs that have already done service commercially. All have been prepared for the special purpose of this work" (p. [3])."
