Text in Russian and English. A book of stunning Russian folk illustrations, many in vivid color. Broadsides were both woodcut and copper engravings, and the ones herein first appeared in the 17th century. They were called lubok, either from the limewood block from which they were printed or from the baskets in which they were carried to be sold. Beautiful illustrations. With a history of "street literature" in general and the lubok in particular.
