Masters in Art (monthly periodical) 9 volumes

Boston, MA: Bates and Guild, 1900-1908. Hardbound. Contemporary 3/4 pebbled maroon calf, marbled boards and endpaper, t.e.g. VG-, some scuffing to the covers, library bookplate inside front cover each volume, appear unused internally. Item #114399

Each one of these 9 volumes includes 12 monographs on noteworthy artists, both historical and contemporary, and is very well-illustrated. Each issue contains ten of the best-known works of a given artist, photographed in fine-screen halftones and printed on heavy stock. Each artist is treated to a biographical sketch, critical commentary with citations of leading journals and a bibliography. Volume 3 is in considerably more worn condition than the other 8 volumes, with cracked hinges, covers off and worn extremities. But the bright side is that Vol. 3 has the signature of A.E. Gallatin inside the cover.
