A delightful look inside these interiors, highlighting staircases, fireplaces, bookcases, ceiling decor, windows, wall panels and more. Most interior decor in the Elizabethan era was made from wood (mainly English Oak) with ornate carved designs. Extensive text is included, and a few of the subjects include Sutton Place, Longleat, Ightham Moat, Warwick Castle, Hardwick Hall and many more. The book also discusses various architects: Inigo Jones, the Adamses, Wren; the influence of Italian renaissance decoration; and a bit of Jacobean and Georgian styles. Included is a table listing the different styles of architecture and decoration with reigns and dates of corresponding monarchs, as well as noted buildings, architects and places from those periods. The list ranges from Norman (1066, Battle of Hastings) through Perpendicular, etc. to Georgian, ending with George IV (1820-1830). Really a fascinating book.
