The book explores the works of Italian Futurist painter, sculptor, and writer Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916) in relation to the works of such artists of the Parisian avant-garde as Robert Delaunay, Marcel Duchampt and Pablo Picasso. Essays range from a discussion between Cubism and Futurism to a psychological analysis of the content of Boccioni's pivotal painting, Materia (1912), as well as his relationship to photography.
