Philosophical Transactions, No. 40, Monday October 19, 1668 (The Variations of the Magnetick Needle)
London: The Royal Society (John Martyn, Printer), 1668. Softbound. 24 cream rag pages, string sewn binding; black text with no illustrations. Page numbered from 789 - 812. (Stored in a plain, dark brown paper wrapper, unmarked). Original stitching tight; a bit of age toning to pages and a few page corners turned up at bottom; generally VG condition for its age. Item #100173
Complete issue in itself (number 40) but likely disbound from a larger volume of all issues for the entire year. Contains additional articles relative to science and scientific discovery and observations of the time: lymphatic system; Bermuda tides, whales, vegetation; telescope polishing and the "extraordinary burning glass at Milan"; cochineel; vegetation, especially juices; kitchen gardens; tapping trees for sap; a letter to the publisher concerning "a bullet voided by urine"; Hevelii Joh's Cometographia; and more. With an errata paragraph. Much written with old English script. Fascinating and very rare.
