Text in Greek. First published in 1961 by Deutsches Archaologisches Institut, Athens. "The content and the study subtitle fit together fairly accurately. Aiming at a deeper understanding of the statue of Aristodikos, the book deals more generally with questions of chronology and artistic workshops in the Late Archaic Attic sculpture, top-down from 550 to 490, in sequence, but it is not a representation of actual historical path. The funerary destination of the statue gave the opportunity to study once again the fundamental questions, "What is the meaning of funerary statue in archaic Attica, and how does the significance unfold?" The author attempted to bring related literary and epigraphic evidence to gain some understanding." With a foreword, in German, by Emil Kunze. All the illustrations pertain to the Aristodikos statue.
