The a very complete history of the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the area surrounding it. One of the main rivers running through Lancaster is the Conestoga, and the Conestoga "Indians" lived in the area. Lancaster was an important inland town during the colonial era, and a town important for its trade, history, and more. Many of the streets in the center city still are two lanes one-way, as in the era of the automobile, one lane was for cars, and the other was still for horse-drawn carriages. The area was known also for its variety of religious traditions, with Moravians, Anglicans, Catholics, Jews, Quakers, and many others settling in the community.
